James drops his eyes to the table. There is an obvious pain and bitterness in her tone, and he is confused at why she chose to share this with him. Especially since it's obviously a vulnerable subject for her, makes her have something on her and her family. He is confused over why she's let him in on this. That her own mother might wish her dead. "Sorry--" he finally says. "I shouldn't have brought it up."
