Watching she stands to clear the table and the food she had prepared, James actually has a creeping feeling in his mind that he ended up being the bad guy in that conversation. He is used to being a voice of reason against the magic and the crazies in their town, but not really a bad guy. Just a guy doing his job. He doesn't have time to dwell on it though.
