Davin's eyes widen when James says his last name. He doesn't tell his last name to anyone. Real names are powerful tools in magic, and that's one Davin keeps closely guarded. He eyes James warily and for the first time, he thinks that maybe there's something wrong with him.
"Uh, well, I am Davin. ...Kavanagh." There's an obvious hesitancy in the way he says his name. He can't even remember the last time he said his last name aloud. "I came t'this village a few years ago after I ran away from an orphanage. An' you're Prince James Thorton, son of King William. You live in the palace at the edge o' town with your siblings an' the rest o' your court."
He bites his lip and looks up to meet James' eyes. "I met ya once, a long time ago, at a ball at the palace. I, uh, snuck in. An' we talked a little. We danced." He swallows hard. "Are ya tellin' me that never happened? How d'ya know me so well then?"
