With so much idle time as of late, James is now doing all the things he used to think about when he was an overworked, well, workaholic cop at the precinct. He actually goes to the grocery store on a regular basis to buy groceries instead of buying take-out all the time. He reads all the books that were piling up on his coffee table and catching up on TV shows he never used to watch. Normally he would view his new routine as laziness, much more ready to wear himself out trying to take care of everything, but now he has nothing stopping him from spending time doing absolutely nothing.
His unemployment has given him plenty of time to spend with Davin. That's the best part. Ever since they reunited he's been seeing his boyfriend much more than he ever did before. These days he isn't always running off to work or worried about getting behind on his cases the way he used to be. It's only now he realizes how much he let his job keep him from doing things with Davin. Though now he worries about smothering him, but he doesn't have much else to do besides fill his days with books and errands and TV while waiting for Davin to get off work.
Sometimes he wonders when he'll get the urge to go back to work. If he's just taking a break or if he's avoiding a decision on what he wants to do with his life after deciding to no longer be a cop. The good thing is he has a boyfriend to keep him busy from worrying too much about it.
Tonight in fact he's been able to cook an entire meal, ready for when Davin leaves the shop. He isn't much of a cook. Before he was too busy and before that his family employed chefs. He tries though and ends up with a pasta alfredo that's mostly edible. They usually take turns hosting at their respective homes, and there are times he wonders if it would be easier if they were just in one place. He doesn't know how to bring up that conversation, and the idea of it frightens him a bit. It's not something he has to worry about this very second though, he thinks, as he flicks off all the burners on the stove.
Then he rushes upstairs to shower and change into more comfortable clothes for when Davin arrives.

Date: 2016-08-10 08:56 am (UTC)Tonight he's sleeping at James', but he and Edan still go back to the apartment after work only to shower off all the engine grease and change into clean clothes. Once he's done, he hops into his car with Edan sitting dutifully in the passenger seat, fluffy tail wagging as they drive.
He hums a happy tune as he lets himself into James' house, and Edan trots over to his bed in the corner and curls up with a chew toy. Davin sets his keys and overnight bag down and follows his nose into the kitchen, sniffing curiously. "Jamesy? Where are ya, babe?"

Date: 2016-08-30 07:16 pm (UTC)Davin grins at James as he comes down the stairs, and happily leans into the hug and squeezes him back. Things really seem to be different this time, and Davin can't really remember the last time that he was so happy. James seems to be doing okay too, after everything. Davin just hopes that things stay on the upswing like this.
"Aw honey, ya cooked?" Davin teases, kissing him again before heading into the kitchen. "Smells good. What'd ya make me?"

Date: 2016-09-04 08:53 pm (UTC)He moves near Davin pulling him in for another kiss. Food can wait for just a moment. He pulls back enough settling hsi hands on the tops of Davin's shoulders. "So how was your day?" he asks.

Date: 2016-09-16 12:47 am (UTC)"Well, it smells edible, aye? We'll see about everythin' else," Davin says with a laugh, but he's pink cheeked and happy over the fact that James made him dinner after a long day. He smiles into the kiss, resting his hands on James' chest and then sliding them up to curl around the back of his neck. "It was long, but good. Worked my ass off on that old Chevy restore, but I think it's gettin' pretty close. I think I may actually be a little sad t'see that beauty go."
He goes into the kitchen and gets two plates from the cupboard, and hands one to James before scooping heaps of pasta onto his plate. "What about you, babe? Did ya keep busy?"

Date: 2016-09-16 03:39 pm (UTC)James smiles, feeling his happiness and good mood wash over him, now that Davin is home. He reaches for Davin's hands as he talks about the hard work he did today fixing up the truck he's been working on, squeezing his fingers. While James isn't exactly an invalid, he does live in a cabin in the woods after all, there is something he admires about Davin working so well with his hands. James has lived a sheltered life so most things that ever needed to be fixed, his family simply paid someone to do it.
He follows Davin over to the food, grabbing the bowl of salad, wine, and bread to go along with their meal. Smiling a little sheepishly, he shrugs. "I wouldn't exactly call it busy," he says as he arranges the items on the table. "I may be running out of things to do. Which is why it's good you're here. I can always find plenty of things to do with you."

Date: 2016-09-21 10:53 pm (UTC)"Now, I know that I'm your favorite thing t'do, but ya need t'find some other hobbies," Davin teases with a wink, playfully patting James on the butt before taking two full plates towards the living room, letting James follow with the wine and bread. "I worry about ya spendin' so much time out here by yourself. What if you go all crazy like in The Shining?"
Davin sits on the couch and sets the plates down on the coffee table before pulling James down next to him and pressing kisses to the side of his neck. "Maybe you could knit?" Another kiss. "Make model airplanes?"

Date: 2016-09-26 06:35 am (UTC)"Hey, aren't I supposed t'be your trophy boyfriend? You're the older one with the millions of dollars," Davin says with a laugh, but he happily accepts James' kisses. The food is momentarily forgotten as he slides his arms around James' waist and rests his head on his shoulder. "I'm just the cute young thing with the tiny apartment and engine grease under his fingernails."

Date: 2016-09-26 11:04 am (UTC)He's still kissing him for the moment as he reaches for his hand. "I don't mind the dirty fingernails, and I know a great way to get rid of your tiny apartment," he tacks on with a smile. "You can just stay here all the time..."

Date: 2016-10-05 07:17 pm (UTC)"Well, ya are very pretty," Davin agrees with a smile. He reaches over for his wine to take a sip, but freezes at what James says next. His eyes widen and he lowers his glass as he looks at James, mouth slack. "Are ya-- did ya just ask me t'move in with ya?"

Date: 2016-10-13 12:01 am (UTC)Even though James has been considering this option for awhile now he didn't mean to drop it so suddenly especially not five minutes after Davin has arrived for dinner. But he doesn't intend to lie here. He smiles a but sheepishly at the expression on Davin's face. "I did. Yeah," he says, clearing his throat then nods firmly. "I would like that. No pressure obviously. But maybe it's something to think about..."

Date: 2016-10-16 10:26 am (UTC)"Oh, wow. Of course I'll think about it, babe," Davin replies excitedly, leaning over to throw his arms around James. A happy laugh tumbles out of him and he gives him a big kiss before pulling back to look at him. Davin never really pictured moving out of his tiny apartment over the bakery, and the thought of moving in with James and living in his fairytale cottage is a thrilling one.
"I would like that," Davin tells him, stroking his fingers along James' jaw. "I just-- I'll have a place t'do my magic, right? Ya won't mind?"

Date: 2016-10-25 03:22 am (UTC)James huffs out a chuckle when Davin throws his arms around him in a hug, cheerily kissing him, and it's as close to the perfect reaction he's been visualizing these few weeks as it can get. There were other scenarios he pictured too like Davin telling him it was too soon or too much. But this, no this is perfect. He wants to start packing up all of Davin's things right now so they don't have to waste another moment.
"There's plenty of space to make yours, and if there isn't we can find a new space," he says, touching the hair along his neck. He is serious. If his cottage doesn't work they can find somewhere else. "All that matters is you're here. With me."

Date: 2016-11-02 12:36 am (UTC)"No, I love your fairytale cottage. I don't want t'live anywhere else," Davin says, pulling back to give James an awestruck look and curl a hand around the back of his neck. "Our fairytale cottage. Wow."
Davin swallows hard, feeling his eyes grow wet as he looks at James. "I just-- I never thought I'd find somethin' like this."

Date: 2016-11-02 01:36 am (UTC)James gently touches at the corner of Da in's eyes where soft tear has formed. He knows these aren't tears of sadness but instead joy. He just doesn't like to imagine Davin not ever knowing how amazing he is. He still hates to think his own attitude before ever made Dacim doubt himself, but he's been working hard to make up for it. He wants to make sure Davin always knows how special he is to James.
"Davin, me either," James says softly smiling back at him. Even without whitewashing his childhood now that his father was dead, his parents were a nauseatingly perfect couple. Maybe that's why William changed so much after his wife's death. James grew up wanted that. Marriage, kids, all of it. Somehow he got stuck being a grumpy workaholic instead.
Until he met Davin. Now he has a chance at a different life. "It'll be ours from now on. Ours."
