As soon as James opens his eyes, he knows something is wrong. It's too dark for one thing. When he rolls out of bed, he stumbles into something hard and he's cursing the pain in his foot. He needs his gun, but there's nothing there when he reaches his hand out. All he finds is a cool draft in the room instead of his nightstand...and a smell. Something stale and musty. He's able to quickly deduce that he is not in his bedroom by the time he gets to his feet. That was not his bed. This is not his house.
He looks down at himself. These aren't even his clothes. Though he remains calm on the outside, his pulse is elevated, racing with panic and adrenaline, but he remains calm. Whoever has taken him, he doesn't want to alert them that he's awake. Though if he's been taken there are no guards in the room, no one here to watch him. It's just an empty stone room. He actually isn't sure...what the hell he's wearing either. He looks around further once his eyes adjust, and he finds a small circle window covered by wood shudders. With a grunt and his shoulder, he manages to push the window open. Once he does, and he gets a look at the world below him, that's when James really panics.
Not again, he thinks. Not again. The last time this happened to him....it was Violet Coombs. Where she trapped him in that labyrinth deep beneath the town, where he almost died. He hasn't seen Moira in months, and Violet too. How can this be happening again. This...building...room...wherever is a tower of some sort, suspended high in the air. All he knows is this is not Siren Cove. This is not a world he's ever seen.
He stumbles back from the window, overwhelmed for a moment with confusion, and he falls stunned into a wood chair. He tries to recall the last thing he did last night, and all he remembers is going to bed like any other night. He read a few chapters of a book. Checked his messages. That was it. He sits for a long time trying to think...
After several seconds of that, he jumps up from the chair and heads for the heavy iron door in the corner and decides to leave. Except he can't because it's locked. He's trapped in a room....in this tower...in this strange place with no way out.

Date: 2015-04-19 03:00 am (UTC)Now he's in a part of the woods that he's unfamiliar with, equal parts exploring and keeping an eye out for any wild berries or anything edible. His stomach is rumbling and while he usually can get something to eat from Coop, he isn't due to show up there until tomorrow.
There's a break in the rocks that seems to lead somewhere, so Davin heads for that and he's surprised to find a grassy meadow on the other side. Even more surprising is the tower in the middle of it. Davin, being far too curious for his own good, approaches it with little thought.
Once he's closer, he spots an apple tree and lets out a whoop of excitement as he hops up to pluck a ripe looking fruit from a low hanging branch. "Things are lookin' up."

Date: 2015-04-19 03:13 pm (UTC)He is leaning against the open window, actually dozing. Until he spots a figure pass down below. He almost thinks it's his eyes playing tricks on him when the man comes walking up to the tree. But he watches as the man reaches up to take fruit from the branches. Excitedly, James leans out of the window, yelling, praying that he isn't too far up that the man won't be able to hear him, "Hey! Up here! I need help!"
He continues waving his arms. "Up here!"

Date: 2015-04-19 03:54 pm (UTC)He swallows the bite and takes another one, because hey, he can eat and walk at the same time, and approaches the tower. There's someone hanging out of a window way up high, but they're silhouetted against the bright sun so he can't really make out their face. It's a man, though. That was definitely a manly voice and that's a very manly shape.
"Are ya stuck up there?" Davin yells, clutching his beloved apple in one hand and reaching up to shield his eyes from the sun with the other. "Did someone stick ya up there? Let me see if I can find a door down here, aye? Sit tight."
Davin takes another bite of apple and walks around the base of the tower, but the whole thing is covered with smooth stones and there isn't anything like a doorway. Well, that just doesn't make any sense. He frowns and calls on his magic, telling any metal to reveal itself. He's hoping for a lock, or a handle, but Davin hears a noise and runs around the other side of the tower to see rock falling away from a big, rumbling iron door. It's locked, but Davin just forces it open with his magic and lets out a triumphant yell when the door swings open. "Okay! I'm comin' up! Totally gonna rescue ya!"
Davin makes his way up the stone spiral staircase with only a little worry of what he'll find at the top. The man seemed genuinely distressed and this is a lot of work just to lure someone in for some trickery, but Davin has seen how terrible people can be. He has his magic on his side, and he can protect himself if he needs. Hopefully, he'll just help someone in need and be on his way.
He comes to another large iron door and grins. This is almost too easy. Davin coaxes the lock open with a nudge of magic and then pushes the door open. "Here I am, your knight in shinin' - whoa."
Once upon a time, Davin borrowed (without permission) some nicer clothes from Coop and snuck into a party at Thornton palace. They didn't like magic, see, and Davin just wanted to know why. There, he'd met a handsome man and had a brief conversation with him, followed by a polite and lovely dance, and then Davin found out that the man was actually a prince. He'd left the party after that, both out of embarrassment and fear of being caught, but he'd never really stopped hoping that one day he would see that prince again.
And now, here he is. Davin stares for a bit and then remembers himself, giving the prince a quick bow. "Your highness."

Date: 2015-04-19 06:53 pm (UTC)When the person bursts through, James is so confused because it's...Davin. He rushes towards him with a sigh, unsure whether to be glad its someone he knows or worried that now they are both in some type of danger. Is Davin trapped here with him this time? Or worse? "Davin? Thank god," he says about to reach for him, only to be cut short in his tracks by Davin calling him your highness and bowing at him.
But Davin has a weird thing about Disney princes, and maybe he's being...funny. "I'm stuck in a tower right? Ha. Ha. That's funny," James says sarcastically, continuing forward and hugging his arms around Davin's shoulders checking him for signs of distress. Yet if Davin's being funny where did he get this costume? And how did James get in the clothes he's wearing? And where did this goddamn tower come from? "What the hell is going on?" he asks because absolutely none of this makes sense. "We have to get out of here. Where did you just come from?"
no subject
Date: 2015-04-19 07:39 pm (UTC)"Huh? Well, I mean, I don't think someone stickin' ya in a tower is very funny," Davin says thoughtfully, cheeks still flushed pink. "I came from the marketplace. I was just out here explorin' an' I came across your tower."
It's then that he realizes that Prince James, of the magic-hating Thorntons, didn't seem surprised that Davin used magic to get up here, or maybe he just doesn't care. Davin blinks at the realization and then shakes it off, looking back at James again. "But yeah, let's get ya out o' here before whoever took ya comes back. C'mon."
Davin gets the urge to reach for James' hand, but that wouldn't be proper, would it? Instead he just gestures for him to follow and heads for the door. "God, they must be goin' nuts at the palace. There's probably guards everywhere."
He heads down the stone staircase, fingers trailing along the walls for balance, and then bursts out into the sunshine and turns to face James with a happy smile. Davin isn't the type to expect a reward for doing good deeds, but maybe if he returns the prince to the palace, he'll get a warm meal. Real food. His empty stomach growls loudly at the thought. "C'mon, Prince. I'll get ya home."

Date: 2015-04-19 07:48 pm (UTC)"But really prince? Is that like a new nickname you're trying out? You know I like you, but I'm gonna have to veto that one." He releases Davin's hand and then steps away, suddenly taken by their surroundings. The lush wild greenery and meadow of wildflowers is like nothing he's ever seen. It's something closer to the Wizard of Oz than anything he knows of Siren Cove. "Where...are...we?" he asks aloud, brow furrowing even further.
no subject
Date: 2015-04-19 07:59 pm (UTC)"It's not a nickname. Ya are a prince." Davin looks at him thoughtfully and approaches him slowly, reaching out like he's going to touch his face but stopping at the last moment, unsure if he's allowed. "Are you alright? How long have ya been up there? Did they do somethin' t'ya?"
He leads James towards the break in the rocks, keeping a respectful hand on his elbow to make sure he follows. "We're not far from the village, really. Just a quick jaunt through the woods, an' we can go 'round the village t'get ya back t'the palace. A few hours at most."
no subject
Date: 2015-04-19 08:28 pm (UTC)A few hours? The village? The palace? Each word out of Davin's mouth is more puzzling than the next.
James ponders their situation as Davin leads them away from the tower, and he is certainly confused that Davin isn't freaking out about the fact that the town seems to have vanished. Maybe this is a dream... He stops abruptly, planting his feet in the grass, not willing to go any further until he knows more.
"Davin, since when do you refer to my house as a palace?" he asks. "Look, I'm really worried something bad has happened. I don't think this is time for games."
no subject
Date: 2015-04-19 08:45 pm (UTC)"Somethin' must have happened," Davin says after a moment. "Your memories don't seem t'be intact."
It's all very curious and Davin tilts his head a little, brow furrowed. Nothing about his is making any sense, right down to how James seems to sure that he knows Davin well. They only met the one time, and sure, they had a lovely dance, but the prince dances with lots of people, he's sure. "Look, why don't ya tell me who ya think ya are? We'll get this all figured out, okay? I promise I'll help."
no subject
Date: 2015-04-19 08:59 pm (UTC)He shakes his head. "But I don't understand why you keep referring to me as Prince. And you....don't seem to care at all that we are trapped in some strange place." He gives Davin a grave look and then starts to pace, trying to think his way through this mess. "Something has happened to you. I don't know what. Tell me what you know about me."
no subject
Date: 2015-04-19 09:12 pm (UTC)"Uh, well, I am Davin. ...Kavanagh." There's an obvious hesitancy in the way he says his name. He can't even remember the last time he said his last name aloud. "I came t'this village a few years ago after I ran away from an orphanage. An' you're Prince James Thorton, son of King William. You live in the palace at the edge o' town with your siblings an' the rest o' your court."
He bites his lip and looks up to meet James' eyes. "I met ya once, a long time ago, at a ball at the palace. I, uh, snuck in. An' we talked a little. We danced." He swallows hard. "Are ya tellin' me that never happened? How d'ya know me so well then?"

Date: 2015-04-20 05:55 pm (UTC)Davin seems to think he lives in this strange new place.
"I am not a prince. I don't live in a palace. I don't even live here. Wherever we are," he says. "But I know you because we're dating. You just don't seem to remember."

Date: 2015-04-20 06:10 pm (UTC)Davin listens to James speak, eyes widening the further he goes. He seems to truly believe every word he's saying, but it doesn't make any sense. One thing is for certain, and that's that one of them is wrong. Now Davin isn't sure which one it is, and that scares him a bit.
"Wait, datin'? Like, we're together?" Davin flushes pink and bites his lip, taking a tiny step closer to James and looking up to meet his eyes. "Is that why I want t'take your hand so bad? It feels like I can, but I thought it was just... I dunno, wishful thinkin'?"
He bites his lip and laughs a little at the absurdity of it all. Somewhere a world exists where someone like James, a prince would want to be with a nobody like Davin. He can hardly believe it.
no subject
Date: 2015-04-20 07:16 pm (UTC)"It's not wishful thinking. We know each very well. Maybe you do know me, but you aren't sure how," James says hopefully as he takes Davin's hand into his, stepping towards him. He is worried about how they are going to leave here, and it would be nice to have Davin back. Not a warped version of Davin either but the real thing. Though this man moves and speaks just like him, and James feels like he knows him. Like, he's familiar. Not simply because he looks like Davin but because he thinks it is.
"Something just has changed you." He looks around frowning to himself. "Changed you and everything else with it. I don't understand how do I remember and not you."
"Do you think a witch could change an entire town and all the people in it?" He asks because this has to be magic.
no subject
Date: 2015-04-20 07:27 pm (UTC)"It feels like I do," Davin says quietly, blushing deeper when James takes his hand. He looks down and watches their fingers thread together, marveling at how well they fit. He looks back up just as James is leaning in close, and Davin feels like it would be so easy to sway in and steal a kiss. He manages not to though, just barely.
"There are not many witches capable of castin' such a powerful spell," Davin tells him, brow furrowed thoughtfully. "But it's not impossible. My life, my memories, they all feel so real. But so does this."
He squeezes James' hand and looks up at him earnestly, leaning in a bit closer. "I don't know what to believe."
no subject
Date: 2015-04-20 09:03 pm (UTC)James considers the idea that a witch in town has caused such a disruption in everyone's lives and for what purpose besides their own agenda. It's hard not to be frustrated when things like this happen, when they are all so vulnerable to every whim and fancy of witches and their magic. When they have taken something special from James and suddenly he's wondering not just about Davin haven't forgotten him but his brothers and sisters too.
The squeeze of Davin's hand draws him back to the present, and he peers back at him. "Whatever magic is here it couldn't make you forget me completely. Except I was the one who attended a party once, and we danced there together," he explains with a softer smile. "Do you remember when we danced? What dance was it? Did I teach you the steps?"

Date: 2015-04-20 09:14 pm (UTC)Davin bites his lip and nods, cheeks still pink as he smiles at James. He's so handsome and Davin has daydreamed about moments like this since the moment they met, but he never thought it would feel like this, like it's so familiar.
"I do. It was the waltz," Davin says quietly, smiling fondly at the memory. He closes his eyes and thinks back to the grand ballroom at the palace, but his brow furrows a bit when he catches flashes of bright lights in the darkness, and strange music pulsing in his ears. Soon it's just the ballroom at the palace again, and James bowing while offering his hand. Davin's eyes flutter open and he grins, lifting James' hand while reaching up to rest his other hand on James' shoulder. "It was the waltz. We were talkin' an' I mentioned not knowin' how. Ya said you'd teach me, an' it was probably the most fun I've ever had."
He looks at James hopefully, barely daring to believe that this is actually happening, that they're here together. "Is that like what you remember?"
no subject
Date: 2015-04-20 10:27 pm (UTC)James smiles when Davin moves them into first position, letting his other hand move naturally to his hip. He sees the memory as it happened, them huddled in the corner at Watersong, as he taught Davin the steps, never guessing the impact it would have on the direction of their relationship. Even though Davin remembers it wrong, Davin looked at James nearly the same way, all earnest and happy. Something inside assures him this is Davin---his Davin. He just has to get his memories back somehow.
"That's what I remember. You begged me teach you, and I did. It was a good night," he says, nodding. He moves his hand up to pull him closer. It feels wrong to kiss Davin when he doesn't know who he is. Even though to James, he feels the same. He leans his forehead against Davin for a very brief moment. "We have had many good nights. I will figure out a way to fix this."
He figures the village is the place to go. "It's good you know this place though. I don't. Take me to town. Let's start there."
no subject
Date: 2015-04-20 10:41 pm (UTC)"I begged ya, aye? Is that how it went?" He chuckles softly and moves easily when James pulls him in. They sway a little, like they're dancing to no music in the middle of a meadow, and Davin's breath catches slightly when James presses their foreheads together. His heart is fluttering in his chest and for a moment he thinks that James might kiss him, and that it might feel a little like coming home. He even tips his chin up for it, but James pulls away.
Davin can't help but to be a little disappointed, but the way James holds him and the things he says... they're even better. Part of him believes what James is saying, and he isn't even sure why, but he does. So even though he sort of wants to stay here in this meadow all day, he nods and shyly takes James' again, threading their fingers together.
I believe ya will, James." He drops the formal title because James doesn't seem to like it, but also because they've obviously moved beyond that. There's something here, between them, and Davin feels light of heart as he leads James through the break in the rocks and into the forest. "We just head this way for a bit, an' we'll be there. Gettin' back probably won't take as long as it took me t'get here. I tend to meander."
He smiles at James and squeezes his hand, resting the other on his stomach as it growls as if he can quiet it. His smile goes a touch embarrassed but he just keeps walking, determined to help James figure out what's going on.

Date: 2015-04-20 10:56 pm (UTC)He follows Davin closely, making sure to keep up. Noticing when Davin stomach growls, he looks around them. "Guess we won't be stopping for Quill," he says, looking at the forest ahead of them. There's definitely no modern conveniences in this new place. "Can I ask if you know my brothers and sister too? I would like to check on them."
no subject
Date: 2015-04-20 11:15 pm (UTC)"Quill? D'ya need t'write somethin' down? I think I have some parchment an' ink in my bag." He nearly stops to check, but James keeps a firm grip on his hand and doesn't seem to concerned with stopping, so Davin leaves it be. "I've never met them or anythin'. I'm just a commoner, so I wouldn't have any reason t'be near them. Only reason I met you was 'cause I snuck into that party. But I would assume that they're at the palace."
Davin's stomach rumbles again and he huffs, doing his best to ignore it. "Can we maybe nick a bit of bread or something once we get there? I don't want t'be a bother, but I'm sure there's food t'spare at a palace, aye? I don't need much."
He's embarrassed to have to ask, but he really is hungry and all this excitement is making him sort of woozy.

Date: 2015-04-20 11:33 pm (UTC)They continue walking for a bit, and James makes sure to pay close attention to the trail they take, trying to get his feel for the lay of the land. "Did you never see me in town?" he asks wondering just how strict the rules are around here. "We never spoke at all?"

Date: 2015-04-20 11:41 pm (UTC)"Well, I mean, here ya are a prince. Once we get t'the palace, you'll be treated like one." Davin is suddenly worried that he won't be allowed to enter the gates, but if James says he can, they have to let him, right? He squeezes his hand at the thought and he's so distracted that he nearly misses the question. "Hm? Oh, well. Not really? I would see ya sometimes, but there would always be guards around an' stuff. A prince can't really wander the marketplace alone, I s'pose. An' I don't know that I would have approached ya anyway. Your family isn't really known for bein' fond of magical types like me."
Davin does stop then, tugging on James' hand and looking at him excitedly. "If we're together, ya must know that I'm a witch, right? An' ya don't care? The king - your father, I mean - he wouldn't be happy with that at all. He'd probably try an' throw me in a dungeon somewhere."
no subject
Date: 2015-04-22 05:04 am (UTC)"I know you're a witch," James confirms with a nod. Davin's powers have never been a big issue for them, but he knows with or without a spell his father would be less than thrilled. His own issues with magic are another thing all together, but he finds himself pushing away those misgivings more often than not because he cares for Davin. He doesn't want to stop seeing him, so in his own way he's been trying to find a way to deal with their differences.
He looks at Davin. "Nothing's going to happen to you. I can handle my father in this world or any other," he says, putting a hand to Davin's cheek and nodding pointedly. Witch or not, he'll stick up for Davin and protect him from his father's vile behavior, just as he had before. Magic makes James a little uncomfortable, but he's not his father, whom he thinks would toss Davin in a dungeon too.
"Come on, let's keep moving," he says, hoping they will make it to this palace before the sun goes down.

Date: 2015-04-22 05:25 am (UTC)"Okay," Davin says quietly, walking alongside him again. After a moment he tentatively reaches over and takes James' hand again. It's such a new, novel thing and Davin enjoys the contact. "We're closer than I thought. I must have really wandered off the path this time."
They make quick work of getting to the village, and Davin leads James around to the edge of town, explaining that it would be best to avoid a commotion. His excitement and nerves alike both grow as they approach the lavish palace, and Davin pulls his hand away from James' as they approach the gates. He gets more nervous with every step, and he hangs back a respectful distance as they step up to it.
"Prince James!" The guard opens the gate and rushes towards them, ignoring Davin completely. "We've been looking everywhere for you. Come, let's get you inside."
no subject
Date: 2015-04-23 12:10 am (UTC)"Oh. Okay---" James looks around for Davin trying to make sure he's with him. "Come on." He waves Davin to join him. Even though James isn't a prince, he is somewhat used to dealing with servants employed by his family. "This is Davin. He'll be staying here. At the, um, palace. As my guest. I'm certain we can find him a room."
Very certain, James thinks as he gets a look at the place. It's even bigger and more grand than his family's actual estate. "Please also prepare us dinner. Whatever he would like." He looks around as they walk through the gates.

Date: 2015-04-23 12:25 am (UTC)The palace guard eyes Davin with a certain level of suspicion, but nods and moves out of the way to let Davin pass. He scurries forward and sticks to James' side, resisting the urge to clutch at his sleeve as they're led through the palace. Davin looks around with wide eyes, taking in all the lavish decorations with a vaguely slack jawed expression.
The guard passes them off to a different servant, and this one is a girl who looks like she could work in the kitchens. "What would you like prepared for dinner, your majesty?"
She's addressing James, and she looks confused when James gestures at Davin to answer. Davin is fairly certain he's never actually placed an order for food before, and it takes him a moment. "Meat and potatoes? And some milk?"
It's the first thing he thinks of, and his stomach growls loudly just at the idea of such a full plate. And milk, god. He can't remember when he last had a glass.
"Of course, sir," she says, and Davin's eyes bug out a little. She turns back to James with a pleasant smile. "Would you like me to show your guest to the chambers next to yours?"
Davin looks at James over her shoulder and nods, gesturing for him to say yes, because that way they'll know here in this huge castle James' chambers actually are.

Date: 2015-04-23 02:30 am (UTC)She bows and leads them through another wing of the castle until they get to a split staircase. They move through a hallway, lit by wall torches, until she takes one and stops in front of the large door at the end which opens into a bedroom. Maybe it isn't the Waldorf, but it's obviously luxurious and meant for comfort and highly esteemed guests.
He nods at the servant after she starts a fire in the fireplace. "This will do fine. Let us know when we are needed for dinner," he instructs and she leaves the room. With a sigh he takes a seat on the wood-carved loveseat near the fire, a little unsure what to do next. "This is not how I thought my day was gonna go," he says, rubbing a hand across his eyes tiredly.

Date: 2015-04-23 02:49 am (UTC)He turns to join James on the sofa, but he suddenly he just feels dirty and awkward. One of these things is not like the others, and it's Davin trying to sit in this plush bedroom like he belongs here. He's clean, because he may be living on the street but he still has his pride, but his clothes are old and worn. He squirms a bit awkwardly and does his best to ignore how out of place he feels.
"Mine either," he says with a quiet chuckle. He looks over at James and feels the strongest urge to curl up against his side, but he stays on his side of the sofa. He already feels awkward enough that he doesn't want to try and take any liberties. "But we'll figure it out, James. I'll help ya however I can, I promise."

Date: 2015-04-23 04:49 am (UTC)At Davin's words, James lets his hand fall away and he smiles at him. "It's funny. You're not you, but you are," he says. He knows Davin doesn't remember their relationship, but he still is himself and it puts James at ease when everything else around him feels so unfamiliar.
"In the morning we'll figure out where to look first. Tonight I think we should just try to blend in and gather as much as we can here," he suggests angling his body towards Davin to face him. "Thank you. I'm just glad you're here."

Date: 2015-04-23 05:28 am (UTC)He watches James' face sighs happily. Maybe he's not this Davin that James remembers, but part of him has to be. It feels like they know each other, and Davin can't help but to wonder just how well they actually do wherever James is from. "I'm glad I'm here, too. Maybe I was s'posed t'find that tower, y'know? Maybe we're meant t'find each other no matter what."

Date: 2015-04-26 02:42 am (UTC)He looks over at him, guessing that the servant will return for them when dinner is prepared. "Well, what do you do here? Where I'm from, you are a mechanic. You fix things," he says. There's probably no such occupation here as there aren't exactly cars being driven around.
no subject
Date: 2015-04-26 03:19 am (UTC)"Hm? Oh! Well, I dunno what a mechanic is, but I am good at fixin' things!" Davin tells him with a bright smile. As he talks, he reaches over to take James' hand without even really thinking about it. It just feels natural, and right, and he threads their fingers together without even realizing it. "I do odd jobs where I can, an' I was workin' in a pub, but mainly I'm spendin' my time as an apprentice, tryin' t'learn all I can about my magic."
He's about to ask what James does where he's from, but a servant knocks and pokes her head in. She looks at their entwined hands and flushes, causing Davin to pull his hand away with a deep blush.
"Dinner is served," she says politely, and Davin tugs James up to follow her before they can get lost trying to find the dining room.

Date: 2015-04-26 09:54 pm (UTC)He sits up from the couch when Davin tugs him along, pulling him back once the servant is within view but far enough away that their conversation will be private. "Uh, I feel strange asking you this, but there won't be a major ruckus about the fact that you're...a man will it? She's not about to find some pitchforks, is she?" he asks, but this world is definitely less modern than the one he's used to living in and he isn't sure if different sexual preferences are acceptable here or not.
He just wants to know what he's in for tonight.

Date: 2015-04-26 10:26 pm (UTC)He frowns slightly and looks at James in his fancy clothes, shrinking in on himself a bit as they follow the girl into the lavish dining room. They're the only ones in here, but it is a little early for actual dinner. The girl leads them to the end of the table with James at the head and Davin sitting next to him. "But as long as you're okay with it, that's all that matters, right?"
He's trying to reassure himself as much as anything else, and he sits stiffly as servants serve them food. His eyes bug out slightly at the sheer amount of it, and he reaches out to pick up his fork with an eager expression. Still, he wants to be polite, so he waits until James is ready to eat as well.
"This looks so amazin', thank you," Davin tells the servants as they leave, and they all look a little surprised and bow their heads before leaving the room. Davin looks down at the huge piece of meat, coupled with potatoes and vegetables, and then over at James with bright eyes. "I am so incredibly happy right now."

Date: 2015-04-26 10:52 pm (UTC)He looks up once they are alone with a smile, watching as Davin digs into his plate. There is a light in his face that is nice to see. "So I have to tell you. When we first went out, I asked you to a dinner at my family's house. It's nothing like this place, but I think you were a little overwhelmed by everything. It didn't seem to scare you off though which is good," he says.

Date: 2015-04-26 11:07 pm (UTC)"I think it would take a lot t'scare me off," Davin says with a fond smile. He wants to ask if James' family liked him, but he's a little afraid of the answer. William doesn't seem like the most pleasant man, and he can't imagine that he would appreciate James being with someone like Davin. Not only a peasant, but a magical one at that. "This is nice, though. I'm a little overwhelmed, but I'm glad t'be here with ya."
He picks up his milk with reverent hands and takes a long sip, licking his lips and grinning as he sets it down. "What else do we do?"

Date: 2015-04-27 04:12 am (UTC)"I dunno. I guess, just this---" He waves his fork at the food in front of them. "We eat dinner. Watch movies. Sometimes we stay at my house or yours. We just kinda spend time together. That makes sense, right?"

Date: 2015-04-27 04:19 am (UTC)He laughs again and looks up when a servant enters, telling them that dessert will be along shortly. Davin boggles a bit at there being even more food coming and then opens his mouth to speak, but defers to James instead, leaning so she won't be able to hear im. "Should we take dessert in your chambers? We might be more comfortable there, instead of being out here in all the - " He waves his hand around at the large, lush dining room - "y'know, royal stuff. And we might be less likely t'run into someone ya supposedly would know."
Davin blushes at the suggestion and realizes only after how bold that was, asking someone to slip away to their bedroom, but it all goes along with how at ease with James he is. Doing something like eating cake in bed with him doesn't seem like something out of the ordinary until he stops to think about it.

Date: 2015-04-27 04:55 am (UTC)"Well---" He leans back in his chair, wiping his mouth with his napkin. "You and I have definitely caused a scandal tonight." Davin's probably right though that they'll want to be hidden away. Chances are if there's a horrible version of his father in his own world, there's one in this one too. Standing up from his chair, he looks over at Davin. "I think it's a good idea we keep out of the way. I believe my father would be able to tell I'm not myself. I'm uncertain how he'll take the news."

Date: 2015-04-27 05:08 am (UTC)Davin frowns though, because he suddenly finds that he hates that idea. He doesn't want to be separated from James at all if he doesn't have to be, and that's such a sudden and somewhat overwhelming realization. "If ya want to, I mean."
He's blushing and he looks at James shyly from under his lashes, and then he stands up and places his napkin on the table as they exit the room together. "That was my thinkin'. I've never met your father, obviously, but he doesn't exactly have the best reputation. Ya may be able t'avoid him until the ball, if we're careful."
Somehow the servants beat them to the room, and they enter to see them setting up dessert. Someone has lit a small fire in the fireplace and Davin looks around, noting how warm and comfortable everything looks. One of the servants gives him another look as they leave, but it's more curious than unkind, and Davin smiles as they shut the door.
"This is better," he says with a happy sigh, taking James' hand and leading him into the room. "Jus' you an' me."

Date: 2015-04-28 03:45 am (UTC)Still, that night at Davin's had been a good night so it's a pleasant rush of thoughts and memories. He pulls off the heavy coat he's wearing, glad to be out of it. These clothes may belong to the James in this world, but they definitely aren't his.
"Where do you live?" he asks as he pours them both cups of the coffee that's been left.

Date: 2015-04-28 04:09 am (UTC)Davin isn't ashamed of his situation. He's still young, and he's doing the best he can for himself. Still, it's a little strange to be talking about it with someone like James, who is so well off. The smell of coffee distracts him from his discomfort and he comes over to sit on the sofa next to James, smiling over at him.
There is a chocolate cake and fruit sitting on the table and Davin furrows his brow a bit, suddenly seeing a vivid image behind his eyelids. He's straddling James' lap and cupping his cheeks as he kisses him and licks melted chocolate from his jaw.
Davin clears his throat and nearly knocks over his coffee, cheeks flushed a bright pink as he looks over at James with wide eyes. "Oh wow. I just - we've done this before."
He looks over at the cake and flushes even deeper. "There was chocolate. An' we kissed. An' it was - wow."

Date: 2015-04-29 04:05 am (UTC)It means that maybe this isn't a new version of Davin at all. He just needs to remember who he is.
He nods at him. "What you're talking about. It was Valentine's Day. Just a couple months ago. We ate dessert on your couch. You asked me to stay the night with you." He pauses thinking for a moment. "Your own powers can't break this spell?"
no subject
Date: 2015-04-29 04:19 am (UTC)"Ya think it's a spell?" Davin frowns a bit at that, because he isn't sure what to think. His life feels so real. He remembers little details spanning back to when he was a child at the orphanage, so if it's a spell, it's an incredibly powerful one. "I don't know. Spendin' time with you helps, I think. I keep seein' like, flashes. They must be memories."
This is crazy. Davin should be freaking out or running away, but he just looks at James warily. For as crazy as it sounds, it doesn't feel crazy. It feels possible, and that's enough to make Davin stay where he is.
"Tell me more about us," Davin says, reaching out to take James' hand. "Make me remember."

Date: 2015-04-30 02:00 am (UTC)"That must feel strange." To remember the feelings, or the edge of feelings, but not have all the memories behind them, James isn't sure he'd be as calm. He carefully watches Davin's face, how it flutters between curious to shy to flushed, and he can't be certain about everything Davin knows or remembers but he clearly remembers something about their time together.
Then Davin takes his hand, and James eyebrows go up as he looks back at him. "Make you remember?" he repeats and softly shakes his head, feeling like that's a large task. A spell that can overtake an entire town doesn't seem like it's going to be broken by James telling a few stories. But he is willing to try anything to help.
"I can try. What do you want to know?" he asks.

Date: 2015-04-30 03:05 am (UTC)"Are we like this as you remember, too? Am I the pauper t'your prince, I mean?" Davin furrows his brow slightly and looks down at their entwined hands. "Why d'ya even like me? I have nothin' to offer ya."
no subject
Date: 2015-05-03 03:19 pm (UTC)"It's not about offering me things. Things I have. I like you because you are kind and you don't expect me to be things that I'm not," he says with a smile. "And you're not bad to look at..."

Date: 2015-05-03 07:58 pm (UTC)"You're not such a bad sight yourself," he teases, turning his head so he can look up at him. Part of him does believe what James is saying. There has to some truth to it, after all, to explain the flashes of things (memories?) that Davin keeps seeing, and the feelings that exist so prominently within him. "We'll figure this out, James."
